Tiny Paws of Hope is a small non-profit cat rescue organisation dedicated to improving the lives of unwanted and unloved cats in Cyprus. We are just like you, ordinary people with regular lies who just want to help.
We were formed after witnessing first hand the abandonment of tiny kittens and in some cases unwanted pets, abuse from businesses and individuals who see cats as a nuisance and the negligence of the authorities as whole, we were left with three choices -
1 Tell someone else and expect them to help, clearing our own conscience as we carried on with our lives.
2 Put our heads in the sand and wipe it from our memory.
3 Stop and help.
We chose option 3 and it’s a choice we continue to make .
Why Cyprus?
We had all visited or even lived on the Island enjoying its climate and beauty spots but all at some point had a story of a cat or 10 to tell, known as the island of cats (originally imported to the island to control the pest problem) the situation has now grown with the cat population expanding uncontrolled and the suffering growing with it
Without sufficient control, rescue organisations or government funding and most importantly without a suitable neutering program, the stray population grows resulting in sickness and suffering . Sadly there are more and more cases of abuse and even torture in the form of poisonings, drownings, and shootings in desperate and barbaric attempts to reduce the population and drive cats away from homes and businesses.
Where Love Rescues and Hope Restores
We currently oversee care for several small colonies of cats.
This means providing daily food , water and shelter to ensure their basic needs are met.
We operate a TNR (Trap, Neuter & Release) programme to prevent further breeding, and control the endless litters of kittens that arrive each year.
We also fund raise to provide veterinary care for any cats in need
Providing Hope and Homes for Animals in Need
Any cats that come into our care are there because they have been sick and need care, have been sick and received care but have been away from the streets too long to return, have been a pet and don't have the skills to survive alone, or are vulnerable and not able to survive without help.
We work non-stop around our day jobs, our families and our lives to provide food, safety, medication, veterinary care, vaccinations, and neutering whilst trying to provide the care and love of a home.
Of course no shelter or foster home can replace the unconditional love of family. Once healthy we seek to adopt the cats, where their shaky starts in life can become a distant memory.
